The Column - Meet the Menerds
Highly Skilled and Hugely Smart

Area Manager

Jonathan Dwight

Besides at Menard, where else can we find you?

Chasing my three kids around the baseball and soccer fields, working on never-ending projects around the house, or water skiing and fishing at the lake.

What was your first job ever?

Shop hand at a small mechanic’s garage. I also moonlighted at the local roller rink. I definitely preferred changing tires to renting out smelly skates!

What was your first project with Menard?

Wick drains at the M&G Rail project in Corpus Christi.

Which project are you most proud of and why?

The Permanent Canal Closures & Pumps (PCCP) project. Menard and USW played a role in helping protect New Orleans from future hurricane storm surges.

What is your favorite kind of soil?

Very soft (sometimes organic) clay soils that we often encounter along the Gulf Coast.  They can be some of the most challenging to build on.

If you weren't in your current position, what other career would you choose?

Captain on a charter fishing boat. Or maybe deckhand. Nobody blames the deckhand if you don’t catch any fish!

If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Remote Alaska during the summer months.  It would be cool to see some most rugged, natural, and untouched terrain left in the world.

If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be?

Probably Guy Fieri from Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. He’s always going to the best places and eating the most delicious looking foods, it’d be great to just tag along with him for meals.  Wait, you meant dinner in the plural sense, right?

Do you have any unusual eating habits?

I put ketchup on my ketchup.  That’s how much I like it.
