The Column - Meet the Menerds
Highly Skilled and Hugely Smart

Regional Sales Engineer

Jim Naples

Besides at Menard, where else can we find you?

I played soccer growing up (with fellow MeNerd Nick Benedetto!), and I still try to get a game or two in every week. So probably one of the parks around the city.

What was your first job?

I sealed driveways and parking lots. My car smelled like tar all summer.

What was your first project with Menard?

10 City Point in Waltham, Massachusetts.

What project are you most proud of and why?

Easterseals Fitness Center. Not the biggest or most complicated, but it has the first CMC rigid inclusions installed in Chicago.

What is your favorite kind of soil?

Loess! But only because it’s kind of a weird word to say.

What is the most obscure fact you know?

Strengths is the longest English word with only one vowel.

If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I want to see the northern lights. I spent a week camping in Alaska…but during the summer. It never really got dark. Bonus obscure fact: the southern lights are aurora australis.

If you weren't in your current position, what other career would you choose?

I’d want Tom Hamilton’s job as the voice of the Cleveland Indians. I need to work on a catchphrase.

What car do you drive?

A 2008 Honda CRV. In about 20,000 miles, I’ll have driven it the distance to the moon. I take the train to work though, so it’s taking longer than expected to get there.
