US Wick Drain joined the Menard Group USA family seven years ago and recently shortened their name to USW.
But don't be fooled - the shorter name actually translates into MORE solutions!
If you haven't read the USW story, it's one filled with family, sacrifice and diligence - along with extremely hard work and consistently complex wick drain projects.
Now that they are an integral part of our family, they aren't ONLY wick drain and earthquake drain specialists any more! They perform the entire range of solutions that Menard does, including Controlled Modulus Column (CMC) rigid inclusions, dynamic compaction, dynamic replacement, vacuum consolidation, rapid impact compaction, vibrocompaction, vibro stone columns/aggregate piers and soil mixing.
This year, USW is taking on projects in Florida for the Department of Transportation where they are installing wick drains and CMC rigid inclusions, with several more projects on the horizon for 2019.
In case you need a refresher, Vibro Stone Columns are columns of compacted granular material installed in fine grained soils to increase the rate of consolidation but they are primarily used to improve the load bearing characteristic and stiffness of soft soils.
Our design Menerd, John Myers, got to work on a solution that allowed us to stiffen the soils and build the columns needed to limit the settlement for the warehouse. The Vibro Stone Columns generated significant schedule and budget savings over more costly augercast piles with large pile caps and thick structural slabs.
